Where it sits

The westernmost capital in mainland Europe, and the closest one to the Americas and Africa. Cables land here. Ships have left from here for five centuries. When work can happen anywhere, the place you choose to stay matters more, and this one is at the hinge of three continents.

What it has survived

An empire, an earthquake that flattened the city in 1755, a revolution with carnations in the rifles. It rebuilt every time, and kept the tiles. A city that has already been through several futures is a good place to bet on the next one.
